Wikileaks: 10 Years On

Just over 10 years ago, Wikileaks published the Iraq War Files, 400,000 documents revealing the true nature of US war crimes in the country. These logs revealed, among other things:

– over 300 incidents of torture and abuse at the hands of occupying forces;
– an order allowing US and UK officers to avoid responsibility for torture;
– 130,000 deaths that had been kept secret by the US military; and
– the imprisonment of 180,000 Iraqis, including 1 out of 50 males in the country.

“If wars can be started by lies, peace can be started by truth,” Assange said. Video courtesy of @WikiLeaks.

Convened by the Progressive International, The Belmarsh Tribunal investigated and evaluated US war crimes in the 21st century — and defended Julian Assange’s right to reveal them.
